A Real Durwan
This
is the very sad story of a very poor woman who earns her keep by being “durwan”. She lives an extremely simple life
and does her job well, but always tells tales of her life and that stories differed.
She always said the same phrase,
“Believe me, don’t believe me.” Then one resident ( it was Mr. Dalal ) gets a
decent raise in pay and does some improvements on the building, which motivates
others to do the same and the building is seriously improved. But after that someone
stole one basin, of course all thought that it was Boori Ma and the old woman
is blamed for being in league with the thieves. She wanted to convince other, that
it wasn’t her, but after all her «tales», they didn’t believe in her. After that,
all residents came to the conclusion that the building needs a real durwan. And
Boori Ma only repeated “believe me, believe me.”
